Buy and sell in style

“Jolly Rhino aims to be the Craigslist of the future with a quick, fun and easy way of initiating transactions between users looking to sell various products. People can send money using their own payment methods while sellers can receive money into their own accounts. The wizard-like interface helps guide the user through each process, and makes things easy to both buy and sell. You can even browse the Jolly Rhino marketplace looking for goodies that are on sale in your area.”

Still in its infancy, Jolly Rhino is getting prepared for launch with the help of Swift developers and a killer admin team. The product itself was intended to very wizard-like, taking the user step-by-step through the process of sending money, selling an item and receiving money. My job was to assist with the site-mapping, visual and UI design of the project.

Visual design

I started with visual design for this project in an effort to entice investors and show that the project team had a great design department at the client’s disposal. Below are several different screens showing an attractive interface for the various functions required.

Site mapping and mockups

Pleased with the results, the investors and the client gave us the go-ahead to create wireframes and piece together the rest of the app. Another team member put together the wireframes and I then turned them into mockups while putting them in the right order. Below is an example illustrating the process for selling an item.

Visual design and branding

While mockups were being pieced together, I kept up with building a Style Guide of sorts to assist our Swift devs with estabolishing design guidelines. I outlined the requirements for typography, color uses for buttons and measurements for particular design cases.

I was also tasked to quickly come up with a logo, or mascot of sorts, and work it into the splash screen of the app itself. Naturally, I illustrated a rhino.

The remainder of the styling made its way into the rest of the app’s design and both the client and investors were very pleased with the resulting product. I kept up with the Style Guide to insure the Swift devs were kept in the loop on any design changes that occured.

With design completed, the app continues to be developed will launch in the near future.
